Viola Streitel

   Viola was born on December 3, 1905 in Richfield Park, New Jersey. She was graduated from High School at 15 and entered Northfield School for Girls for two years. She married at 19 and lived in Floral Park, Long Island. During World War II, she moved to California, establishing permanent residence in 1947.

   On December 23, 1964, she moved to Leisure World. She took her first lapidary class in 1970 under Mr. Homerklausen. Then she studied the art of making commessi (intarsias) under Russ Hind. Along with Cecil McConnell and William Grundke, she was one of the pioneers in this field. Viola passed away in 2007.
