Kenneth Neaves

"I was born in 1941. My home is in the mountains of North Carolina near where a lot of gems and minerals are found. I started carving gemstones in 1968. I have no formal training and had to learn by trial and error. I exhibited at several gem shows and won some blue ribbons and trophies. People would come to me at the shows and ask if I would do a carving for them. First thing you knew, I was in the gemstone business. I did gem shows for many years.

My carvings are in private collections worldwide. I had an exhibit of North Carolina gemstone carvings on loan to the Colburn Museum at Ashville, NC in 2008. For the last two years I have donated carvings to the American Federation of Mineralogical Society for the endowment fund. I am still carving and always willing to help anyone learn to carve gemstones.
