grandfather who made wood intarsias inspired Juan Soliz. He began his career,
however, as a gourmet chef specializing in French cooking. For six years
he studied under Fred Hays of Santa Barbara, California to learn jewelry
making and stone inlay. Although of Kiowa heritage, he rarely uses Native

stylized birds, bees, trees, plants, reptiles, fish and the wild animals
of the jungles.
