John Tymkiw

   John was born on October 16, 1913 in Stry, Ukraine. He was graduated from High School, and then in 1943 moved to Germany. From 1949-1951 he attended the United Nations Refugee Organization University in the United States. He lived in Chicago for two years, where he worked as a machinist. In 1957 he moved to Los Angeles, California, where he worked as a carpenter until he retired in 1975. In 1985 he moved to Leisure World and started lapidary work in 1989. It took two years for him to make his first intarsia. He then acquired more rocks and made several more pictures until his eyesight went in 1995.
