Reed was born in 1887. He graduated from 8th grade in Hopkins, Minnesota.
He married Signe Johnson in 1909, and later entered the Army. He began collecting
agates along Lake Superior. They moved to Bremerton, Washington in 1948
where he worked at the Naval Shipyard. He retired and devoted his time to
work on his rocks. His brother Bill Reed from Deerlodge, Montana was also
a rock hound. They were together in the same area at Yellowstone North Park
the day before the earthquake.
Signe he made many trips to California and Arizona collecting rocks. He
belonged to the Kitsap Gem & Mineral Club. He made several tables and
two beautiful rock pictures (commessi).
